Getting closer, but still so far

First came a stretch of road to Eberswalde that was closed to traffic, but I guess it was OK to bike it. Then another sea of sunflowers. Later I reached a nice castle, called Schloss Boitzenburg, where I was tempted to go in for a swim...but...rode on instead.

In the afternoon I reached the border of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and made a photo of the old borderstone. Then came a somewhat perplexing city called Friedland, where, for whatever reason, they decided not to renovate the otherwise remarkably nice churches.

I saw lots of storks, funny, that there were close to none in Brandenburg or Saxony, but Mecklenburg was full of them. Here again I found some really pleasant roads - hardly a car and rather flat - it kept you going and going.

There was this funny encounter with a rabbit: it was a tiny road and I see this thing running at me, not away from me. Maybe it was lost in its thoughts, it was about 10 meters away when it realized I was there and then rushed into the wheat field. A few minutes later a similar story happened with a deer - I guess they were not prepared for anyone to disturb their Friday evening...

Later in the evening, I was a sign - just a road sign - saying 'Greifswald 20 km, Stralsund 50 km' - then I knew I was really close - but it's getting there that counts - not just getting near, correct? Anyhow, I found a pleasant hotel in the town of Jarmen, where the nice lady even washed all my clothes during the night. It is good to wear clean & fresh clothes, especially when biking!
