SUMMER 2014

Hero

This is an introduction that I am writing some dozen years after this end of this trip. Back then, I omitted writing the intro, so now comes the part of trying to put things together so many years after the end of the journey. Also, I did not add a lot of photos, just the first three days or so - it is now time to make up for this. Hopefully, what you will be seeing on your screen will have the colorful mementos.

Let us see in brief what tis trip was all about: in July in 2014 I managed to get roughly four weeks off work, following a very busy work sprint. Together with my buddy Peter - who has been (and still is) supporting the creation of the very blog you are reading - we discussed we would go for a joint bike ride from the south of Czech Republic towards the north. Peter also had a friend, Kalman who would be joining us. Ther plan was to ride as much as we wanted to together - though I was on a mission. My goal was to reach Rügen, the largest island in Germany, located in the Baltic Sea off the Pomeranian coast in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - in order to meet my back-then partner, Anne, who would be taking a train from Hamburg; and we would spend a few days together.

So the common ride to the north with Peter and Kalman was free-flowing, but Anne had a rigid schedule, so I had to reach Rüger by a specific date and we would be spending six days enjoying the sea and discovering the island. At the start of the trip, I knew that I would still have like ten days left - and had a general plan to meet Rupert, my now-deceased friend in southern Sweden.

Things actually went according to plan. I rode with Peter and Kalman for a few days, reached Rügen in time, spent the time with Anne - and then rode to the north. In fact, I rode quite "high up" - eventually reaching Trondheim. From there, I took a boat to Bergen, then a train to a wonderful part of souther Sweden - and then took a flight home from Stockholm.

In the upcoming pages, I would like to tell you about this wonderful trip of mine, where I had ridden through four countries: Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and Norway.
