Cheering for Italy
Starting the day with a pleasant descent, I rode through some scenic villages.
Later, I completely misread the map: there was a large pass (Passo di Acquabona) up ahead, I thought I would directly "fall" into the sea, but that wish wasn't granted, the pass was definitely there, right in front. What else to do, I climbed it - the reward was a nice view of Lamezia Terme from above.
Rolling downhill, I reached Lamezia Terme, not the nicest town, but they had a great market with some good local food. Here I reached the sea, now arriving at the top of the boot. In the middle of town, there was an area of refugees living in tents.
Roughly 40 km later, I arrived at the town of Pizzo, here as I wanted to watch Germany beat Italy, but as we now all know, it was the other way around. Pizzo is a great town, having a marine area, the central area somewhat higher up and then there is a third section on top of a hill. There was public viewing in the beautifully lit square of the middle section, you can imagine how the crowd reacted to Italy scoring those goals.
The celebration lasted till the wee hours of the following morning, but I was sound asleep.
