The Blue of the Adria
Day 7 -August 5
I guess this whole adventure was about freedom - pictures tell thousand words, as they say, just look at this:
I started the day with a nice swim (of course), then I was off in the direction of Medulin, which, to my surprise, is a popular tourist destination. The beaches there looked very crowded, worse, they looked really boring, more like some small ponds and lakes. Not sure why people are attracted to such places, while where the nature is really beautiful, there was practically no one. Well, it could be families with kids, where they want the sea water, but the safety of a small bay - that is the probable answer.
Continuing towards Pula, I was only a few miles from the airport, where my parents were checking in for their flight back to Vienna. We could have met, but as they were already past the security checkpoint, we decided not to. I decided to skip the town of Pula, I was there with my partner a year earlier, so I headed north. Close to Rovinj, I left the main road for a dirt road (where I got lost a bit and had to back-track for quite a while, of course) to reach a beach with pristine water, called Cisterna Beach, it was absolutely worth it - swimming there was pleasant.
In Rovinj itself, I was riding through places I had visited with my partner not long before this trip (back then by car) and took another plunge. The road took me next to the house we stayed at. Similar to Pula, I skipped the historic town.
Then came the Limski (or Lim) Canal - here I had ridden my bike in both directions earlier and had also driven through it by car. It is a steep, narrow road, with wonderful views of the surroundings.
I took a rest at a supermarket I had stopped on an earlier route, then I stopped at a campground on the other side of the Limski canal, close to the city of Vrsar. I pitched my tent on a small island in the camping. I was happy to watch a beautiful sunset.
Here is the map of the day, it was close to 90 km, with about 600 meters of altitude gain and loss.
