Epilogue
Well, this story was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about my bike trip in the summer of 2021. It was a memorable one - I loved both Catalonia, as well as the Basque Country and enjoyed the Atlantic Ocean just as much as the Mediterranean. The nature was amazing, so was the architecture. Looking back at the ride, the nicest three memories were of the stone Romanesque churches in the small towns, the feeling of conquering all those passes and the nice swim in Biarritz. The joint ride with Yuriy was a lot of fun, thanks again for the nice chat and the good cooking!
I thank you for having followed me. As some of you might know, I am also an Excel guy, so will now sum of the distances and elevation covered on this trip. By the way, before actually doing the math right now, I really do not know what distance I had covered, so here it comes:
Excel tells me I had covered 1,180 kilometers, did about 19,600 meters of climbing and 18,500 of descending. Hmmm, as I starred out at the in Barcelona (sea level: 0) and finished in Bilbao (sea level: also 0), the ascent and descent must be the same, so one must be overstated, the other understated somewhat (or both are wrong....) - but then these are just numbers. I actually think to have ridden somewhat more, as many of the rides within the towns, the roads where I had gotten lost and turned around are not marked. 1,180 kilometers sounds about right, I am quite proud to have absolved close to 20,000 meters of elevation gain, that would be the flight level of a Concorde.
OK, enough of mathematics. If you are up for some adventure, I can certainly recommend the Pyrenees mountains, you will have the pleasure of riding through three countries, experience tough, but rewarding Tour de France passes, see a lot of culture and meet other travelers roaming around that area. It was a pleasure to have visited this area and was fun writing about this trip. Soon, I shall start with two new blogs, of my recent tour of Balkan and then that of Sicily - can hardly wait. Again, thanks for having followed me on this journey!
