Day 3 - May 8 - From Christian to Muslim

After packing up, I started the day and noticed that I had almost reached a summit the previous day - so the morning started with a nice downhill plunge. My phone was dead, so I charged it when I saw some hunters early in the morning at a village - they were from Austria, I hardly understood their thick dialect. Later, I bought some cheese at a small farm house - where the son of the villagers, a university student, spoke both good English and German.

Not long after this I reached the Bosnian border and crossed it at the town of Novi Grad. Even before the crossing, it was evident I would be entering a different area - when the minaret of the first mosque showed up. The border was the bridge over the river Una, where I had ridden about 10 years prior.

I was up for quite a surprise on the other side: the town was so much more lively than in the southern part of Croatia I had ridden from. Cafés were full of people, shining cars promenading...

I decided on a hilly side-road, then did quite a poor judgment call - wanted to take a short-cut Google recommended...Well, the paved road finished and it was a muddy forest road heading steep uphill - needless to say I got hopelessly lost and soon I realized I did a huge circle. After an hour and a half, I arrived back to where I started - darn!

This detour cost me a lot of energy and I was glad to be back to the civilization. I made it to the town of Saski Most - and found a place to stay for just Eur 22. Not the nicest hotel, but for sure a dry one...as soon as I checked in, a huge thunderstorm came down. When I thought it would die down a bit, I ventured out to get some fast food dinner. It was somewhat of a mistake, as I had gotten soaking wet. I cycled roughly 100 kilometers that day.
