Day 8 - May 13 - Zig-zagging river
Wow, quite a busy day that was! Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment in an otherwise wonderful hotel (called Gold). A major climb came, but only for a couple of miles. What followed was a lovely countryside with rolling hills (road is called P10, it is labelled as scenic road #1).
I visited a small, but beautiful monastery with amazing wall paintings.
As I was heading south, I almost missed a sign (thank you for catching my attention, Stray Puppy #1, #2 and #3...). Well, this turned out to be a sight fit for kings, queens, czars...
...what I saw was a spectacular view of a winding river from above. Oh wow, what Mother Nature can create....
The road was still quiet and I enjoyed the pleasant biking circumstances.
I reached a place called Bajista, the quiet road turned rather busy, a major artery leading to Serbia. Luckily, not for long, it crossed a touring river and while not as calm, as in the morning, made it to Berane by about 6 pm, passing a narrow gorge.
I thought a second about looking for a place to stay, but I decided to push on. There were two things I failed to realize:. First, this was leading to a ski area quite high up and second, a thunder was approaching.
The following day I discovered that I was just shy of the summit, but at a certain point, having ridden 124 km, I got just too tired, so pitched my tent somewhere next to the road. Similar to the experience on my second day back in Croatia, as soon as I was inside, it started to rain, ever more, there was lightning striking near ne and huge thunderstorms. I heard the voices of shepherds - a man, probably without a cell-phone, was shouting at the top of his lungs to a woman - and she was screaming back. Not 5G technology, for sure. It was not my favorite night, but made it to the morning....
