Day 6 - May 11 - South of Sarajevo

After a very average breakfast in my so-called Grand Hotel, I did a bit more sight-seeing in Sarajavo then started heading towards Pale. I was a bit apprehensive that traffic - based on the experience the previous day - would be bad, luckily, it was not a busy in this southernly direction.

In the small town of Pale, I bought freshly squeezed apple juice from a small factory, the guy spoke perfect English. Traffic was by now extremely light, the road, despite the bold name "M5", was perfect for riding in a picturesque countryside.

M5

Alas', the nicely built M5 ended and a tiny, poorly maintained road, R448, started climbing and climbing and climbing, with many switchbacks - at the end, though, I was rewarded with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains.

Could have been in Austria as well

Traffic on the top of the mountain

Heading downhill, another nice view was of the town of Goražde. Took bit of a rest and a not-too-yummy çevapce, right on the banks of the river Drina.

Continuing southwards was quite difficult, must have been tired, it was getting hot - did not do too well. I met a Polish couple on their bikes, thy were on a 3-day trip, we exchanged some of the experiences.

I understood the piece about the 9% incline

Lots of green

Crossing traffic

In a small village, think I was called Luke, I saw the road heading steep uphill, and was not up for that any longer...I also saw an elderly couple taking care of a large garden - and asked if I could crash there. They immediately agreed, offered me coffee, tea and even some cake. The icing on, well, the cake, was that I could access their Internet connection...So I pitched my tent and slept rather well...after about 105 km of riding that day.
