  • Map of the day

In the morning, I spent some time getting my stuff dry with the rays of the morning sun (yes, there was sun, thank God) and hence it was only by 9 that I finally left. It did not take too long, like 3 kilometers, to bump into the first castle that day, called Chateau de Millery.

There were many nice churches on the way, but I decided to skip a couple. I reached the town called Chateau-Chinon, despite its nice name I was not all too impressed. Francois Mitterand was the mayor of this town before becoming president of France in 1981. I was about to leave town when I got to a small street and there was a tiny bakery in the courtyard of a house. They were having cakes and they offered some to me and I played a bit with the kids, buying a very tasty bread, that lasted for 3 or 4 days.

In the afternoon, I reached Corbigny, which had an abbey, but it was closed on Mondays. The town had a small canal running alongside it.

An hour or so later, while riding next to a field in the middle of a forest, I spotted a fox, who was minding its business, not really paying attention to me. I whistled, shouted - maybe it was a deaf one. When he did hear me, he shot out in the direction of the trees, to get cover.

A not so clever fox

It was around 6:30 pm by the time I reached Dornecy, which also had a very romantic "lavoir".

Someone still washing their clothes?

Half an hour later I reached Clamecy - and while I had intended on going further, the town was so nice that I decided to discover it and sleep in its vicinity. It is an old medieval town and used to be the capital of wood-floating to Paris.

There was a canal next to the town and I found a campsite. Even though it was a bit overcast, but it did not rain that night.

I rode about 108 kilometers that day.
