On the last day in July, I apparently started late, around 9 am. As I had reached the western edge of the peninsula, my sole logical option was riding south.
The first interesting thing that day was that my campground was pretty close to a nuclear power plant, in Flamanville (I found this out only after having stayed there, not that the knowledge of the fact would have changed my intention of sleeping there). It was a pretty large area that was cordoned off the sea. Behind barded wires, a bus was transporting workers from one site to the other. Well, it did not look really inviting.
No more power plants that day; for the most part, I was riding on small, quaint roads, through sleepy villages and scenic coast roads. Below a selection.
Off the shore towards the west are the islands of Jersey and Guernsey, where I could have hopped over - but would probably have seen the same architecture there, so decided against this decision.
Somewhere close to a beach, still in the morning, I saw a British father with heavy backpacks hiking with his two sons, who were pretty heavily loaded, too. They were not in a good mood, fighting each other. As it turned out, I would meet them a day later.
The highlight of the day was a 2-hour beach "vacation" I allowed myself to take, at the beach of Bretteville-sur-Ay. It was low tide and one had to walk quite for a while to reach deeper waters - a bit like on the southern shore of Lake Balaton.
There was also an Aprés-Beach scene. I got some beer at a bar - and also charged my depleted phone.
Quite late in the evening, I got to Regnéville, where there was a quite old, but friendly campground. The guests residing there were friendly (however, not their large dog, who looked at me suspiciously), they told me the host was long gone and he would be back only the following morning. I pitched my tent on an empty spot, showered and charged my electronics in the bathroom, as expected, nothing was stolen.
That day I rode some 98 kilometers.
So ended the month of July for me.
